Everything on the list is something you can't take.

So the advice becomes: rest, and wait it out.

For nine months. While carrying something.

2 in 3
pregnancies come with back pain
Widely reported across obstetric research; one Obstetrics & Gynecology study put it at 68.5%.

It is the single most common complaint of pregnancy, and it arrives right when the shelf of things you're allowed to reach for gets very, very short.

Everything else in your life got a plan. A birth plan, a nursery plan, a leave plan, a hospital bag packed by week 34.

The plan for your body aching for six straight months is: sit down.

Let's be clear, because this is where these articles usually go wrong.

We are not going to tell you what is or isn't safe to take. That is a conversation for you and your provider, and anyone selling you something who pretends otherwise should be ignored.

The point is narrower than that. Whatever you and your provider land on, it is a very short list, and it is the only list anybody hands you.

So most days you don't reach for anything. You stand up slowly. You put a pillow behind your back at your desk. You go to bed at 8pm and wake at 2am anyway, because lying down was supposed to be the fix and it isn't.

And it never occurs to anyone to offer you something you don't swallow.

The thing you'd do for any other back

If a friend hurt their back at the gym, you'd know exactly what to say.

Support it. Take the load off it. Put something warm on it. Nobody's first instinct for a strained back is swallow something and wait for it to find its way there.

You'd treat it from the outside, right where it hurts. That's not alternative medicine. That's what every physio, every trainer and every chiropractor does all day.

Kinesiology tape has been doing this on athletes' backs for forty years. It lifts the skin slightly, takes a share of the load, and gives the muscle underneath something to work against.

Now hold that next to what your body is actually doing right now.

You are carrying a load you never trained for.

By the third trimester, there's an extra twenty-five to thirty-five pounds on the front of your frame. Your centre of gravity has moved forward. Your lower back is arching to compensate, all day, every day, without being asked.

Meanwhile relaxin has loosened the ligaments that normally hold your pelvis steady. More load, less structure.

An athlete in that situation would be taped. Nobody thinks to tape you.

Your bump is the heaviest thing you'll ever carry, and it's the one load nobody offers to help with.

Not instead of what your provider recommends. Alongside it, and there on the days you'd rather not take anything at all.

Lift for the bump. Warmth for the back. Something quiet for the head. All of it worn on the outside, none of it swallowed.

It isn't complicated. Nobody was just making it for pregnancy.

So we made it. All three parts.

Because the bump, the lower back and the headache at the end of a long day are three different problems, and one product cannot serve all of them.

Taping the bump

It takes about ninety seconds.

1
Clean, dry skin
No lotion or oil underneath. Stand up so the bump sits where it normally sits.
2
Anchor and lift
Two strips up each side of the bump, one underneath to cradle. Stretch the middle, not the ends.
3
Leave it
Wear it for days at a time, showers included. Peel it off slowly in the shower when you're done.

Quick answers

Is it safe to use while pregnant?

Everything in the kit is drug-free and worn on the skin. That said, we are not your care team: please check with your doctor or midwife before using any new product during pregnancy, including topical ones. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, sensitive skin, or any bleeding or blood-pressure concern, ask first.

Where does the tape go, and where do the patches go?

The tape goes on the bump and lower back. The Women's Wellness Patch is a warming patch meant for the lower back, not over the bump. The Relax Patch goes on the temples or forehead. Don't apply anything to broken, irritated or recently shaved skin.

When in pregnancy should I start?

Most people reach for support once the bump gets heavy enough to change how they stand, which is usually somewhere in the second trimester. The kit is sized so you have enough to get through the third.

Why two rolls of tape?

A roll is 15 pre-cut strips. If you tape a few times a week from the second trimester on, one roll doesn't last. Two is the honest amount for the stretch when you'll actually want it.

Will it stick? I'm sweaty and permanently warm.

It's designed to stay on for days, through showers and sleep. Apply to clean, dry skin with no lotion underneath and rub it in for a few seconds to activate the adhesive.

Does it replace what my provider has recommended?

No. It's drug-free, and it's designed to sit alongside whatever you already do, and to be there on the days you'd rather not take anything.

What if my skin reacts?

Everything is hypoallergenic, but pregnancy skin is not your usual skin. Patch-test a small strip on your forearm for a few hours first, and stop if you get irritation.
